With fifteen minutes and a pair of scissors we’ll show you how to prototype an app.

Materials:

Step 1: Come up with your basic concept

Don’t have one already brewing? Use this quick activity we call “the mashup” to help you come up with an idea to practice on.

Choose one item from column A and one item from column B to help you fill in this madlib:

This app is a _________________ (A) service/ app for ___________________ (B)

 

Column A:

  • Food delivery

  • Dating

  • Collaboration

  • Hotel booking

  • Route planning

Column B:

  • Dog lovers

  • New parents

  • 80-year-olds

  • Deaf teenagers

  • Introverts

 

Step 2: Create your template

B: Cut long the red lines

Tip: to cut the phone lines, fold the image in half, so the top meets the bottom, then cut in from the center.

STEP 3: Draw three screens in the three boxes in the grid

STEP 4: Thread your boxes through the screen to create your prototype

STEP 5: Give yourself a high five!

You just build an app! Now go show it to someone to get some feedback on your idea.
