Inspiration Breakfasts
An event series to bring play, creative curiosity, laughter, and multi-sensory making 🌀 2017 - 2020
What
Inspiration Breakfast was an hour-long experience I held every three weeks. I would craft an activity that would have people experiencing the world through their senses, building in unfamiliar mediums, and empowering their inner child, with a bonus of homemade breakfast for creative food fuel. Sessions included activities like “Smell Adventures” – a smell scavenger hunt around San Francisco, paired walk-and-talks with maps of questions to follow, artist date share-backs, and fantastical hat haberdashery.
Why & Who
I started Inspiration Breakfasts for my team at IDEO U – a group of almost entirely non-designers, when many were feeling both creatively depleted and like imposters within a design-centric organization. Over time, different folks began stepping up to co-host sessions inspired by questions they had stumbled upon, mediums they were curious about, or experiments they wanted others to embark on with them.
Emergent questions
How do you inspire people who don’t yet identify as creative?
How do you build ritual around creative expression?
How do you help people play – with the world, with one another, and with themselves, in a culture that feels under-resourced with time?
